Located west of Abidjan, the Yopougon industrial zone (ZI) is the largest and most active in the country. It brings together several hundred companies operating in various sectors, including agro-industry, metallurgy, chemicals, textiles and construction materials. This industrial diversity strongly contributes to the creation of wealth and jobs, making Yopougon an essential engine of the national economy. The area benefits from a strategic positioning, with easy access to major roads, the autonomous port of Abidjan and major logistics infrastructures. This network strengthens the competitiveness of established companies, by reducing transport costs and facilitating the supply of raw materials as well as the export of finished products.
Beyond its economic weight, the Yopougon ZI plays a significant social role. It generates thousands of direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the professional integration of young people and the development of the local economic fabric. Many Ivorian SMEs coexist there with large multinationals, promoting synergies and the transfer of skills. However, this dynamism comes with challenges. The question of infrastructure modernization, environmental management and urban planning remains crucial. The Ivorian authorities, aware of these issues, have initiated several projects to rehabilitate and extend industrial zones, with the support of technical and financial partners. The objective is to strengthen the sustainability and attractiveness of these productive spaces. As part of the national industrialization strategy, Yopougon is called upon to play an even more central role. Initiatives aimed at promoting the local processing of raw materials, particularly agricultural ones, are encouraged. This orientation is part of the desire to create more added value on the Ivorian territory.
At the crossroads of economic ambitions and industrial realities, the Yopougon ZI remains a strong symbol of Côte d'Ivoire's march towards emergence. Its modernization and expansion could well make it, in the long term, one of the most influential industrial hubs in the West African sub-region.
