The traffic jams that strangle Yopougon every day could soon be a thing of the past. Indeed, a study on improving mobility was launched on August 13, 2026. Around the table, AGEROUTE, the Abidjan Urban Transport Project (PTUA), the Abidjan Urban Mobility Project (PMUA), the Yopougon Town Hall, as well as the ministries of Transport and Maritime Affairs, and Infrastructure and Road Maintenance. A gathering of stakeholders commensurate with the stated ambition, namely to provide Yopougon with an integrated urban mobility study, an essential basis before any large-scale development.

Concretely, this is a feasibility study covering two components. The first concerns the extension of the East-West BRT towards Songon, over 7 kilometers, an extension which would be added to the Yopougon-Bingerville structuring line already under construction as part of the PMUA. The second aims to build BRT 1B, a 3.6 kilometer section along Boulevard Alassane Ouattara, a strategic artery of the municipality. Far from being an isolated project, this study is part of a logic of complementarity with the PMUA and the PTUA, two programs already engaged in the transformation of the transport network of Greater Abidjan. The objective is to have better integration of infrastructure and different modes of transport, in order to avoid redundancies and optimize investments. Lasting 15 months, the study work will begin in September 2026, financed thanks to a donation from the Spanish government.

Ultimately, AMUGA and its partners are aiming for smoother traffic and modern infrastructure, accessible and adapted to the mobility of tomorrow. One more step towards an economic capital where traveling will no longer systematically mean patience and traffic jams.
