Côte d'Ivoire and Huawei are banking on digital technology to boost agricultural productivity. Indeed, a delegation from Huawei Côte d'Ivoire led by its interim Director General, Benoît Wu, held a working session with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Production, 2 days ago. At the center of the discussions, the “Smart Agriculture” project, launched in 2023, which intends to revolutionize agricultural practices thanks to digital technology.
Concretely, the platform developed by Huawei will aim to map agricultural plots, monitor the evolution of crops in real time and provide farmers with valuable data on inputs and weather conditions. A tool that is all the more strategic as Côte d'Ivoire, the world's leading cocoa producer, faces growing climatic and economic challenges that weaken small producers.
At the end of the discussions, the responsible Minister, Bruno Nabagné Koné, gave his agreement in principle to the project, affirming the will of his Ministry to support the deployment of the solution across the entire national territory. A decision which could mark a decisive turning point in the structural transformation of a sector which employs almost half of the Ivorian working population.
