Yamoussoukro, capital of African mathematics

The city of Yamoussoukro hosted the 11th Pan-African Congress of Mathematicians, a major scientific meeting under the theme “Mathematics facing the challenges of Africa: from theory to practice”. Researchers, academics and experts from across the continent come together to explore the links between fundamental research and concrete applications in the service of African development. The discussions focused in particular on the role of mathematics as a transversal discipline, capable of fueling technological innovation, supporting economic modeling and contributing to the resolution of concrete problems such as resource management or urban planning. This type of meeting also aims to strengthen inter-African scientific cooperation and encourage the emergence of new generations of researchers on the continent. By hosting this major event, Côte d'Ivoire confirms its ambition to position itself as a regional reference center for scientific research. The choice of Yamoussoukro, the country's symbolic city, also illustrates the desire to decentralize major academic events and to promote the university infrastructures established in the interior of the country, far from the sole economic capital.
