It is the image of an airport plunged into darkness, lines of distraught passengers, airlines forced to manage cascading delays, on May 17, 2026, a power outage lasting several hours revealed the energy vulnerability of the main Ivorian gateway, aggravated by a simultaneous malfunction of emergency generators. Faced with this observation, the Ivorian Government has initiated a global intervention strategy. The Minister of Infrastructure and Road Maintenance presented to the Prime Minister an action plan aimed at sustainably securing the electricity supply to the airport platform. The new line, 14 kilometers long and carried by 200 poles, constitutes the first concrete link.

Its construction required close coordination between three key players, namely SODEXAM, CI-ENERGIES and the Compagnie Ivoirienne d'Electricite (CIE), as well as active involvement of communities bordering the route. This infrastructure now guarantees a power supply that meets the standards required for a strategic platform, thereby consolidating the economic positioning of Côte d'Ivoire in the sub-region. The security system does not stop at this line. Two 2,500 kVA generator sets will complete the system, their acquisition having been entrusted to AERIA under the supervision of SODEXAM. While awaiting their effective deployment, CI-ENERGIES has already made temporary generators available to ensure the continuity of airport operations.

With this new energy architecture, Abidjan intends to definitively turn its back on the electrical incidents which had tarnished the image of its airport platform, a regional benchmark for air transport.
