An outstretched hand, a firm grip, and behind it, the promise of a more robust health system for millions of Ivorians. It was in this solemn atmosphere that the first meeting of the Joint Steering Committee for health cooperation between the United States and Côte d'Ivoire opened in Abidjan. This committee arises directly from the Health Memorandum of Understanding signed on December 30, 2025, a five-year commitment which establishes a structured framework for cooperation in health security and sustainable strengthening of health systems. 

The inaugural meeting, held in the presence of the main implementation stakeholders, aimed to present the first work of the committee and to collect the necessary guidance for the continuation of the process. This memorandum of understanding, signed on December 30, 2025 at the Prime Minister's Office, mobilizes a total amount of 272 billion CFA francs over five years, as part of the American "America First Global Health" strategy. It targets four priority areas, namely surveillance and response to epidemics, laboratory systems, medicines and inputs, and health data, with particular emphasis on maternal and child health, HIV and malaria. By working hand in hand, Washington and Abidjan also intend to open new opportunities for American companies and innovations, particularly in logistics and health data management solutions.

This partnership, hailed as a decisive milestone, aims to transform diplomatic commitments into concrete results on the ground, for the benefit of health security and the shared prosperity of both nations.
