While the oceans have become real geopolitical and economic issues on a global scale, two island and coastal nations on the African continent have decided to combine their assets to build an ambitious blue cooperation together. Indeed, Sidi Tiémoko Touré, Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, held a working session with his Mauritian counterpart during an official visit to Mauritius a few days ago. The discussions highlighted the vast prospects for bilateral cooperation in the sectors of fishing, aquaculture and the blue economy.

At the heart of the exchanges, the valorization of marine resources and the development of innovative projects with high added value were identified as priority areas. The two Ministers reaffirmed their common desire to build dynamic South-South cooperation, in line with the imperatives of sustainable development. This approach is in line with the strategic orientations of the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources, in particular its National Program for the Development of Livestock, Fisheries and Aquaculture (PONADEPA). Crowning these exchanges, the two parties announced concrete progress for the upcoming signing of a memorandum of understanding intended to structure this strategic cooperation, an instrument similar to those already used in the sector on a regional scale. d'Ivoire to place its maritime resources in a logic of sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships.
