Guinean authorities recently formalized with Chalco Guinea Company, a subsidiary of the Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco), the construction of an alumina refinery in the Boffa prefecture, about 150 kilometers northwest of Conakry. The overall investment amounts to 1.68 billion dollars, including 1.12 billion allocated exclusively to refining infrastructure. The industrial complex, once operational, will produce 1.2 million tonnes of alumina per year. This volume represents a significant increase in the value chain of Guinean bauxite, a resource of which Guinea holds the largest reserves in the world. In terms of job creation, approximately 1,000 direct jobs and 1,200 indirect jobs will be created through the construction of this refinery. the government's political commitment to this structuring project. The agreement is fully in line with the Simandou 2040 program, a roadmap officially launched in October 2025, which provides for a total investment of $200 billion over fifteen years to transform the Guinean economy through industrialization, infrastructure and the development of natural resources. It also arises from the framework agreement concluded between President H.E Mamadi DOUMBOUYA and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. 

Third alumina refinery built under the 5th Guinean Republic, this project illustrates the desire of the authorities, according to the vision of the Head of State H.E Mamady DOUMBOUYA, to break with the logic of raw export and build a national industry with high added value, generating qualified jobs and lasting economic benefits estimated at 603 million dollars for Guinea.
